TRANE PACIFIC SERVICE
27 YEARS IN THE UNION
JOURNEYMAN
REFRIGERATION FITTER
What is the most valuable benefit the Union provides?
Being a member of Local 675 is having peace of mind because the medical and retirement
benefits help ensure that my family is taken care of and is also considered part of a larger,
extended ohana.
Who was influential with you joining the Union?
While I was in the HVAC Program at HCC, the Local 675 officers, at that time, came in and
talked to us about being part of something to be proud of. That was it for me.
Who inspired or helped you along the way?
I'd have to say Johnathon Lee and Chad Kamibayashi helped make the transition to Trane as
smooth as possible. They both taught me there's a time to work hard and a time to relax.
If you had to change one thing in your career, what would that be?
One thing I would change in my career is to have gotten into the computer and IT sector
sooner. Many buildings and equipment revolve around automation.
How do you motivate the younger generation entering the Trade?
I don't feel that yelling at them worked, so I wanted to try a different approach. I keep them in
the loop, explain to them what they are doing, and make them a part of the process so they
feel comfortable.
What advice would you give to a new apprentice or someone just starting out?
I would tell the younger generation and new apprentices to learn something new every day.
Have an open mind and embrace the uncomfortable. If you feel uncomfortable it
means you are learning. This industry will humble you; it's all part of the process.
