Celebrating March4Water in Hawaii
In March, IAPMO (the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials) celebrated March4Water, an annual campaign that highlights the importance of clean, safe water and the plumbing systems that protect public health. IAPMO, the organization behind the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), which sets the standards for safe plumbing systems in Hawaii, will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026.
Our members play an important role in keeping Hawaii running. Nearly 2,600 plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters across the state build, maintain, and repair the systems that deliver clean, safe water to homes, businesses, and communities every day.
This year, March4Water was officially recognized in Hawaii by the State House of Representatives, the Honolulu City Council and the Maui, Hawaii and Kauai County Councils, helping raise awareness of the importance of protecting Hawaii's water resources.
As noted on the IAPMO website, "Water is one of Hawaii's most precious resources, and protecting it requires strong infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce," said Sam Barrett Jr., Business Manager of UA Local 675. "March4Water gives our communities an opportunity to recognize the vital role plumbers and pipefitters play in safeguarding public health, conserving water, and supporting sustainable growth across the islands. We're proud to work with policymakers and industry partners to raise awareness of the solutions and the skilled professionals needed to keep Hawaii's water systems safe, efficient, and resilient."
