On April 11, Local 675 and the Hawaii Building & Construction Trades Council signed the Project Labor Agreement (PLA) for the Mauka extension of the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. The expansion of the 46-acre site includes, 280,000 square feet of terminal improvements, installation of a ramp control office and ground transportation.

“We need to be able to provide for more gate capacity during peak travel, which is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” said Ross Higashi, Airports Division Deputy Director.

After the Mauka Concourse project is completed, it will increase gate capacity adding up to six wide-body airplanes and 11 narrow-body aircrafts. Currently, the terminal has 13 gates.

“We are grateful for the expansion project of our airport and excited to be part of a major project that will better serve our island,” said Reginald Castanares, Business Manager/Financial Secretary for Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 675 and President of Hawaii Building & Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO.
