What Does It Mean To Live In A "Right-To-Work" State?
The Right-To-Work (RTW) bill recently introduced into legislation is calling for right-to-work policies for all 50 states, if it becomes law. Currently, there are 27 right-to-work states. According to the AFL-CIO, data shows quality of life decreases in states with right-to-work laws. Below is a breakdown of how RTW affects wor king families:
  • LOWER WAGES & INCOME
    • Average worker in a RTW statemakes over $6,000 less per year
  • HEALTH BENEFITS
    • People younger than 65 in RTW states are more likely to be uninsured
  • HIGHER POVERTY RATE
    • Poverty rates are higher in RTW states at 15.3% compared to 12.8% in states without RTW
  • INCREASE IN WORKPLACE DEATHS
    • Rate of workplace deaths is 49% higher in states with RTW
